I rarely write reviews, however my experience mandates that I do so now.
I've stayed in many many "luxurious" hotels, but The St. Anthony Hotel truly redefines the word. The property is stunning. Old world glamour meets the 21st century two short blocks from The Riverwalk. Some hotels try hard to imitate this concept, but The St. Anthony has executed it perfectly. Beautiful antiques and attention to detail in the most profoundly gorgeous hotel lobby and first floor I have encountered. The pictures on the website do it no justice, you have to see it to believe it.
Check-in was fast and flawless.
Sexy modern rooftop pool complete with full bar.
My "basic" room with a king sized bed felt anything but. Spacious, plush, comfortable. Very modern and elegant bathroom. Custom lighting throughout. Killer view of the city through my oversized picture windows. I now feel compelled to go home and remodel everything. Room service was a breeze and while a bit on the pricey side, my food was delivered piping hot and with all the little extras I needed. The food I ordered was pretty simple, but surprisingly more delicious than I expected courtesy of the chef (no cooks at this hotel) who prepared it. Imelda, who delivered my order was wonderfully kind and helpful and quite frankly unforgettable.
Haunt is one of several hotel bars and I visited the first night of my stay (8/17/16). The custom cocktails offered were hard to choose from, but I selected a Lavender Lady - best drink ever. The bartenders were friendly and fun, and I ended up talking with both ladies my entire time there.
Breakfast at The Library Cafe was relaxing and scrumptious. I felt as though I had three servers as three different people all shared responsibility and looked after me. I'm not too difficult of a customer, and my order was pretty simple, but all the same I received extra attention as I suspect my experience and comfort was a priority for them. So very rare and I was quite literally equal parts grateful and blown away by the service.
The service from the hotel staff is impeccable, beyond reproach. From the doormen to management. Every single staff member I met was gracious and professional and extended an offer to assist me with any need I may have. When I needed ice, a bucketful was brought to my room promptly. I needed stamps to mail postcards and they were literally taken out of my hand and stamped and posted at no additional cost to me. I've never felt so pampered and taken care of as I have at The St. Anthony. I would especially like to recognize Shawnn for taking the time to give me a much desired brief on the colorful history of the hotel and its many unique antique pieces. He also encouraged me to sit and take a picture at the hotel's old beautiful grand piano, which Liberace once played! Shawnn's attention and time was much appreciated and very enjoyable.
Overall this trip, my first to Texas, has been great. But The St. Anthony Hotel has made it extraordinary. Without reservation, this has been my best hotel experience...ever. Hotels and resorts worldwide would do well to follow the example of The St. Anthony Hotel which has thrown down the gauntlet and, in my opinion, set a new industry standard.
Thank you for a very memorable stay. I will be coming back.
